What flat rate means here
A flat rate means the figure attached to your yard and your chosen rhythm is the figure charged, every time that cut happens. A medium lot on a two-week plan is $40 — in July when the grass is fighting back, and in January when it is barely moving.
It is not an estimate that gets trued up afterwards, and there is no hourly meter. If a cut takes longer than the pro expected, that is absorbed by the pro, not added to your bill.
What flat rate does not mean
It does not mean unlimited. A flat rate covers a standard cut on a lawn in normal condition, and pretending otherwise is how flat-rate companies end up quietly reintroducing surcharges.

- Leaf and storm-debris cleanup
- Mulch, weeding and bed work
- A first cut on grass that is severely overgrown, which is quoted before anyone starts
Each of these is quoted separately, before anybody starts, so the number you agreed to stays the number you agreed to.
What is in every standard cut
- Mow the whole lawn, front and back
- String-trim what the mower cannot reach — fence lines, posts, beds
- Edge the hard borders: driveway, walkway, kerb
- Blow the clippings off every hard surface before leaving
Flat rate versus the two alternatives
Quote-based pricing means a call, sometimes a visit, and a number that arrives a day or two later. It is accurate, and it costs you the afternoon.
Hourly pricing puts the risk on you: a pro who is slow, or who hits a machine problem, produces a bigger bill for the same lawn. Flat rate puts that risk on the person who can actually control it.
